This Privacy Policy describes how your Personal Information is collected, used, and shared when you visit and interact (e.g. submit a form or make a purchase) with islamicfinanceguru.com (the “Site”).
Islamicfinanceguru Limited is the "controller" under data protection laws for each of our Site, our IFG Wealth product, our IFG Wills product and our courses platform hosted on Teachable.
Personal Information we collect
When you submit a form on the Site, we collect certain information from you including your name, email address, phone number and physical address and IP address – we refer to this as “Personal Information”. Additionally, when we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information, Order Information "Wills Information" and Portfolio Information:
Device Information
When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.” We collect Device Information using the following technologies:
- “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies click here .
- “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
- “Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.
Order Information
Additionally if you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the Site, we collect certain information from you, including your email address, billing address, shipping address, payment information (including credit card numbers). We refer to this information as “Order Information.”
Wills Information
Where we’re processing your personal information in relation to our Wills service, we’re the controller of your personal information. The lawful basis for our processing of your information is consent and contract further to your filling in the relevant forms and agreeing to our privacy policy and terms.
The purposes we collect and process your personal information are: to improve your experience on the Site; provide the services you sign up for, in particular the preparation of Islamic wills; communicate with you directly in the course of providing our services or when the law allows us to do this.
As part of our service we may share your anonymised data with an external Islamic law expert in order to certify your document as sharia-compliant.
Where you engage with a campaign provided by us in collaboration with a third-party such as a charity, your data may be shared with said third-party so as to better enable them to deliver and improve their services and to track any bequests made in their favour. This data includes your email address, name, donated amounts, and such other information as is necessary for the third-party to effectively manage its legacy programme.
This is a UK-only service and as such all data is processed in the UK.
Portfolio Information
If you use our IFG Wealth platform we will collect certain information from you including your portfolio constituent details and their respective allocations, your risk appetite, and various ancillary pieces of information necessary to allow us to deliver a well-updated portfolio service for you. We refer to this information as “Portfolio Information”.
The lawful basis for our processing of your Portfolio Information is consent further to your filling in the relevant forms and agreeing to our privacy policy and terms upon sign up to IFG Wealth.
How we use your Personal Information
We use Personal Information to communicate with you and for record keeping purposes. When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products, services and content by email and paid advertising.
Device Information
We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimise our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).
Order Information
We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfil any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to screen our orders for potential risk or fraud.
Wills Information
The purposes we collect and process your personal information are: to improve your experience on the Site; provide the services you sign up for, in particular the preparation of Islamic wills; communicate with you directly in the course of providing our services or when the law allows us to do this.
Portfolio Information
We use your Portfolio Information to help provide an updated portfolio service for you. We will also use it to send appropriate email and message alerts to you based on your investments.
Sharing your Personal Information
We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. For example, we also use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Site, you can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information here . We may also share your Personal Information with a third party (Data Processor) to help us manage our website content, hosting and security as well as our online marketing requirements.
Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.
Protecting your Personal Information
We take measures to ensure your Personal Information is protected and secured wherever it may be stored. Our Site uses SSL encryption to protect any data you enter on the Site. Personal Information is stored on password protected computers and servers. In the unlikely event your Personal Information’s security is breached, we will inform you within 72 hours where feasible and carry our the necessary actions as per EU Law and GDPR.
Behavioural advertising
As described above, we use your Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you. You can opt-out of receiving marketing emails from us using the provided “unsubscribe” or “manage preferences” link at the bottom of emails, or you can contact us using the details below to be removed from our mailing lists.
Do not track
Please note that we do not alter our Site’s data collection and use practices when we see a Do Not Track signal from your browser.
Your rights
If you are a European resident, you have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted. If you would like to exercise this right, please contact us through the contact information below.
Additionally, if you are a European resident we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example if you make an order through the Site), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above. Additionally, please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States.
Data retention
When you submit a form or place an order through the Site, we will maintain your Order Information for our records unless and until you ask us to delete this information.
Social Media Tools (For Platforms Only)
We use an internal tool, the IFG Social Scheduler, to prepare and publish posts to the social media accounts that we own or administer. It is used only by IFG and Cur8 staff and is not offered to the public. Nothing in this section applies to visitors to this website; it describes how we handle the accounts we run.
Platforms the tool connects to
The tool uses YouTube API Services, the Meta Graph API (Facebook and Instagram), the LinkedIn API and the TikTok Content Posting API to publish on our behalf.
What the tool stores
When a member of staff connects one of our accounts, the tool stores an authorisation token for that account together with the account's display name and platform ID. For each post it stores the text, media, links and scheduling time that our staff enter, and the ID and URL of the post once it is published. The tool does not access, collect or store information about other users of those platforms, their followers, messages or analytics, beyond the confirmation that a post was published.
How we use and protect it
This data is used only to publish and keep a record of our own posts. It is held in a database controlled by IFG, is never sold, is not shared with advertisers, and is not used for advertising or profiling. Access is limited to the staff who operate the tool.
Retention and revocation
Tokens are deleted as soon as an account is disconnected from the tool, and any data relating to a revoked connection is deleted within 30 days. Access can also be revoked from the platforms themselves: for Google and YouTube at https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions, and for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok from each platform's "Apps and websites" or "Apps and services" settings.
YouTube and Google
By using the tool with a YouTube channel we are bound by the YouTube Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/t/terms). Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
Changes to our Privacy Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.
